NUEDEXTRA interactive core visual aid redesign
NUEDEXTA is the First and Only FDA-Approved Treatment for PBA. Following the web design guidelines, I have redesigned the entire interactive core visual aid in order to make the presentation more easily navigable, creating clear visual hierarchy, and more aesthetically pleasing (Users often perceive aesthetically pleasing design as design that’s more usable). The presentation is used by Avanir’s representatives to promote the drug prescription from doctors to patients suffering from pseudo-bulbar affect.
disclaimer: all info on the presentation are REDACTED due to the sensitive nature of the presentation. Furthermore, the presentation is a web based iPad app, however the top navigational bar is native to the application and Avanir can only change the web pages that exist in the application, not the application itself, therefore I cannot change navigational element of the top navigation bar.
The Original presentation menu design
Feedback on the layout from users: the layout is messy and difficult to navigate, it is unclear that the sub item is related to the main menu items on the left and it just looks like all the items are spread out on the page.
I redesigned the menu according to material design principles, and I went with a stacked menu design to clearly separate the main menu items and sub menu items, the icons can be clicked on directly to switch in between the main menu pages and sub menu item can be clicked on which return the view to the selected page and closes the menu, when main menu bar is clicked the items are expanded to show a new presenter what each of those items are by name and when item is hovered over it would be highlighted, and sub menu shows after the main menu item is selected.
While the stacked view is new and innovative, upon user testing the feedback seems to be navigating from one sub menu option to other isn’t as easy as the options becomes hidden away and the tradtional material design navigational drawer design suits the user need better and everyone enjoys the newly designed menu! This also complies with Jakob’s law: Users spend most of their time on other sites. This means that users prefer your site to work the same way as all the other sites they already know.
The sub item has a lower opacity and lack of tab icon so it is clear that they have a lower hierarchy over the main menu tabs.
Other elements of the page have also been improved including: page navigation between pages, increasing amount of negative space on page for a cleaner visual, improving charts and graphs on the iCVA. However I cannot showcase those elements due to client confidentiality with Avanir.
